Hotmail imap and smtp
Here's an overview of how to set up Hotmail (now Outlook.com) with IMAP and SMTP:
IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol)
IMAP allows you to access your Hotmail emails from multiple devices and clients, and synchronize your email folders across all devices.
To set up IMAP for Hotmail:
- Go to the Hotmail settings page by clicking on the gear icon in the top right corner of the Hotmail inbox and selecting "View all Outlook settings".
- Click on the "Accounts" tab and then select "Manage accounts".
- Click on the "Edit" button next to your Hotmail account.
- Scroll down to the "Advanced" section and select "IMAP" as the account type.
- Enter the following IMAP settings:
- Server: imap-mail.outlook.com
- Port: 993
- Encryption: SSL/TLS
- Username: your Hotmail email address
- Password: your Hotmail password
- Click "Save" to save the changes.
SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol)
SMTP allows you to send emails from your Hotmail account using a third-party email client or app.
To set up SMTP for Hotmail:
- Go to the Hotmail settings page by clicking on the gear icon in the top right corner of the Hotmail inbox and selecting "View all Outlook settings".
- Click on the "Accounts" tab and then select "Manage accounts".
- Click on the "Edit" button next to your Hotmail account.
- Scroll down to the "Advanced" section and select "SMTP" as the account type.
- Enter the following SMTP settings:
- Server: smtp-mail.outlook.com
- Port: 587
- Encryption: TLS
- Username: your Hotmail email address
- Password: your Hotmail password
- Click "Save" to save the changes.
Important Notes
- Make sure to enable less secure apps in your Hotmail account settings if you're using a third-party email client or app to access your Hotmail account.
- Some email clients or apps may not support the latest encryption protocols, so you may need to use an older version of the protocol (e.g. SSL instead of TLS).
- If you're having trouble setting up IMAP or SMTP, you can try resetting your Hotmail account password or contacting Microsoft support for assistance.
