Hotmail imap folders

Hotmail, now known as Outlook.com, uses a proprietary protocol to access its email accounts, which is different from the standard IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol) protocol used by most email providers. However, you can still access your Hotmail/Outlook.com email account using IMAP, but with some limitations.

Here's how to access your Hotmail/Outlook.com email account using IMAP:

Note: Before you start, make sure you have a Hotmail/Outlook.com account and that IMAP is enabled for your account. To enable IMAP, follow these steps:

  1. Sign in to your Hotmail/Outlook.com account.
  2. Click on the gear icon () in the top right corner of the page.
  3. Select "View all Outlook settings" from the dropdown menu.
  4. Scroll down to the "Accounts" section.
  5. Click on "Manage accounts" and then select your account.
  6. Scroll down to the "Advanced" section and toggle the switch next to "Enable IMAP" to the "On" position.

Accessing your Hotmail/Outlook.com email account using IMAP:

  1. Set up your email client (e.g., Microsoft Outlook, Mozilla Thunderbird, or Apple Mail) to connect to your Hotmail/Outlook.com account using IMAP.
  2. Use the following settings:
    • Server: imap-mail.outlook.com
    • Port: 993 (SSL/TLS)
    • Username: Your Hotmail/Outlook.com email address
    • Password: Your Hotmail/Outlook.com password
  3. Once connected, you can access your email folders, including the following:
    • Inbox
    • Sent Items
    • Drafts
    • Junk Email
    • Deleted Items
    • Spam
    • Trash
