To set up Hotmail (now Outlook.com) on your Mac using IMAP, follow these steps:
Step 1: Enable IMAP in your Outlook.com account
- Log in to your Outlook.com account.
- Click on the gear icon in the top right corner and select "View all Outlook settings".
- Click on "Mail" and then scroll down to the "Accounts" section.
- Click on "Edit" next to "Account settings".
- Under "Account type", select "IMAP" and click "Save".
Step 2: Set up your Mac's email client
- Open the Mail app on your Mac.
- Click on "Mail" in the top menu bar and select "Preferences".
- Click on the "Accounts" tab.
- Click the "+" button at the bottom left corner to add a new account.
- Select "Other Mail Account" and click "Continue".
- Enter your name, email address, and password.
- Select "IMAP" as the account type and enter the following settings:
- Incoming Mail Server: imap-mail.outlook.com
- Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP): smtp-mail.outlook.com
- User Name: your Outlook.com email address
- Password: your Outlook.com password
- Click "Create" to add the account.
Step 3: Verify your account settings
- Go back to the Mail app and select the new account from the list.
- Click on the "Account" menu and select "Get Info".
- Verify that the account settings match the ones you entered in Step 2.
- If everything looks correct, click "OK" to close the window.
Step 4: Sync your email
- Go back to the Mail app and select the new account from the list.
- Click on the "Sync" button in the top right corner of the window.
- Wait for the email to sync with your Mac.
