A blast from the past!

To set up Hotmail (now Outlook.com) in Outlook 2010 using POP3, follow these steps:

Step 1: Create an app password

To use POP3 with Hotmail, you need to create an app password. This is a one-time process:

  1. Sign in to your Outlook.com account.
  2. Click on your profile picture or initials in the top right corner, then select "View account" from the dropdown menu.
  3. Click on "Security" from the menu on the left.
  4. Under "App passwords", click on "Generate" and follow the prompts to create a new app password.
  5. Note down the app password, as you'll need it later.

Step 2: Set up Outlook 2010

  1. Open Outlook 2010 and go to "File" > "Account Settings" > "Account Settings" (again).
  2. Click on "New" to add a new email account.
  3. Select "Manual setup or additional server types" and click "Next".
  4. Choose "POP3" as the account type and click "Next".
  5. Enter the following settings:
    • Your name: Your name as you want it to appear in the From field.
    • Email address: Your Hotmail address (e.g., [yourname]@hotmail.com).
    • POP3 server: pop.outlook.com.
    • Port: 995.
    • Username: Your Hotmail address (e.g., [yourname]@hotmail.com).
    • Password: The app password you created earlier.
  6. Click "Next" and then "Finish" to complete the setup.

Step 3: Configure Outlook 2010

  1. Go to "File" > "Account Settings" > "Account Settings" (again).
  2. Select your Hotmail account and click "Change".
  3. Under "More Settings", click on the "Advanced" tab.
  4. Set the "Use the following type of encrypted connection" dropdown to "SSL" (or "TLS" if your server supports it).
  5. Set the "Outgoing server (SMTP)" to "smtp.outlook.com" and the port to 587.
  6. Click "OK" to save the changes.

That's it! Your Hotmail account should now be set up in Outlook 2010 using POP3.
