Hotmail pop3 outlook 2010
A blast from the past!
To set up Hotmail (now Outlook.com) in Outlook 2010 using POP3, follow these steps:
Step 1: Create an app password
To use POP3 with Hotmail, you need to create an app password. This is a one-time process:
- Sign in to your Outlook.com account.
- Click on your profile picture or initials in the top right corner, then select "View account" from the dropdown menu.
- Click on "Security" from the menu on the left.
- Under "App passwords", click on "Generate" and follow the prompts to create a new app password.
- Note down the app password, as you'll need it later.
Step 2: Set up Outlook 2010
- Open Outlook 2010 and go to "File" > "Account Settings" > "Account Settings" (again).
- Click on "New" to add a new email account.
- Select "Manual setup or additional server types" and click "Next".
- Choose "POP3" as the account type and click "Next".
- Enter the following settings:
- Your name: Your name as you want it to appear in the From field.
- Email address: Your Hotmail address (e.g., [yourname]@hotmail.com).
- POP3 server: pop.outlook.com.
- Port: 995.
- Username: Your Hotmail address (e.g., [yourname]@hotmail.com).
- Password: The app password you created earlier.
- Click "Next" and then "Finish" to complete the setup.
Step 3: Configure Outlook 2010
- Go to "File" > "Account Settings" > "Account Settings" (again).
- Select your Hotmail account and click "Change".
- Under "More Settings", click on the "Advanced" tab.
- Set the "Use the following type of encrypted connection" dropdown to "SSL" (or "TLS" if your server supports it).
- Set the "Outgoing server (SMTP)" to "smtp.outlook.com" and the port to 587.
- Click "OK" to save the changes.
That's it! Your Hotmail account should now be set up in Outlook 2010 using POP3.
