How can we know mail is read in gmail

In Gmail, there isn't a built-in feature to notify you when someone reads your email. However, there are a few workarounds and third-party extensions that can help you track whether someone has read your email:

  1. Read Receipts: Gmail offers a feature called "Read Receipts" that allows you to request a read receipt from the recipient. When the recipient opens the email, you'll receive a notification. To enable Read Receipts:
    • Go to Settings (gear icon) > General > Reading pane.
    • Check the box next to "Request read receipts."
    • Click "Save Changes."
  2. Third-party extensions: There are several browser extensions available that can track whether someone has read your email. Some popular options include:
    • Read Receipt (Chrome): This extension sends a read receipt to your email when the recipient opens the email.
    • Email Tracker (Chrome): This extension tracks email opens and clicks, and provides a read receipt.
    • Streak (Chrome): This extension provides a read receipt and also tracks email opens and clicks.
  3. HTML code: You can add HTML code to your email signature to track whether someone has read your email. This method requires some technical expertise, but it's a more discreet way to track email opens.
  4. Gmail Labs: Gmail Labs is a testing ground for new features. You can enable the "Email tracking" feature, which will send you a notification when someone opens your email. To enable Gmail Labs:
    • Go to Settings (gear icon) > Labs.
    • Search for "Email tracking" and click the "Enable" button.
    • Click "Save Changes."

Please note that some of these methods may not work for all recipients, and some may be considered invasive or spammy. Always respect your recipients' privacy and use these methods responsibly.
