How come mail acknowledgement in gmail

In Gmail, a "read receipt" or "read confirmation" is a feature that allows the sender to know when the recipient has opened or read their email. This feature is also known as "Mail Acknowledgement" or "Read Receipt".

Here's how it works:

  1. The sender composes an email and sends it to the recipient.
  2. The recipient opens the email, and Gmail sends a notification to the sender's server.
  3. The sender's server then sends a confirmation email to the sender, indicating that the recipient has opened or read the email.

Gmail's read receipt feature is not enabled by default, but you can turn it on for individual emails or for all emails sent from your Gmail account. Here's how:

Enable read receipt for individual emails:

  1. Compose a new email or open an existing one.
  2. Click on the three vertical dots at the bottom of the compose window.
  3. Select "Show original" from the dropdown menu.
  4. In the "Show original" window, click on the "Request read receipt" checkbox.
  5. Send the email as usual.

Enable read receipt for all emails sent from your Gmail account:

  1. Go to your Gmail settings (gear icon).
  2. Click on "See all settings".
  3. Scroll down to the "General" tab.
  4. Under "Sending", click on the "Request read receipts" dropdown menu.
  5. Select "Always" or "When I request a read receipt" from the dropdown menu.
  6. Click on "Save Changes".

Keep in mind that read receipts are not foolproof, as recipients can still disable read receipts or use a different email client that doesn't support this feature. Additionally, some email providers may not support read receipts at all.
