How much to mail first class letter
The cost to mail a First-Class letter in the United States depends on the weight and size of the letter, as well as the destination. Here are the current rates for First-Class Mail letters:
Domestic (within the United States)
- 1 oz (1 ounce) letter: $0.55
- 2 oz letter: $0.70
- 3 oz letter: $0.85
- 3.5 oz letter: $1.00
International
- 1 oz letter to Canada: $1.20
- 1 oz letter to Mexico: $1.20
- 1 oz letter to other countries: $1.30
Additional ounces
- Each additional ounce: $0.15
Special rates
- Letters to APO/FPO/DPO addresses: $0.55 (1 oz) to $1.00 (3.5 oz)
- Letters to U.S. territories (e.g. Puerto Rico, Guam): $1.20 (1 oz) to $1.30 (3.5 oz)
