How to change how often gmail checks for mail

By default, Gmail checks for new mail every 15 minutes. However, you can adjust this frequency to suit your needs. Here's how:

Method 1: Using Gmail's settings

  1. Log in to your Gmail account.
  2. Click on the gear icon () in the upper right corner of the page.
  3. Select "See all settings" from the dropdown menu.
  4. Scroll down to the "General" tab.
  5. Look for the "Check mail from other accounts" section.
  6. Click on the "Frequency" dropdown menu and select one of the following options:
    • Every 10 minutes
    • Every 15 minutes (default)
    • Every 30 minutes
    • Every 1 hour
    • Manually (you'll need to refresh your inbox to check for new mail)
  7. Click "Save Changes" at the bottom of the page.

Method 2: Using Gmail's browser extension

If you use the Gmail browser extension (e.g., Gmail Notifier or CheckGmail), you can adjust the frequency from within the extension settings.

  1. Click on the Gmail extension icon in your browser toolbar.
  2. Click on the "Settings" or "Options" button.
  3. Look for the "Check frequency" or "Polling interval" setting.
  4. Adjust the frequency to your desired interval (e.g., 10 minutes, 30 minutes, etc.).
  5. Click "Save" or "Apply" to save your changes.

Method 3: Using a third-party add-on

There are several third-party add-ons available that allow you to customize Gmail's check frequency. Some popular options include:

  1. Boomerang: A popular add-on that allows you to schedule checks for new mail, as well as set reminders and snooze emails.
  2. Sanebox: An add-on that uses machine learning to filter out unwanted emails and can also adjust the frequency of Gmail checks.
  3. SaneBlackHole: A free add-on that allows you to set custom check frequencies and also provides additional features like email filtering and blocking.

Keep in mind that some of these add-ons may require you to create an account or pay a subscription fee to access their features.
