How to check if your sent mail has been read

The age-old question!

Unfortunately, there's no foolproof way to know for certain whether someone has read your email, as it's a private matter between the sender and the recipient. However, here are some indirect methods to help you gauge whether your sent mail has been read:

  1. Read Receipt: Some email providers, like Gmail, allow you to request a read receipt from the recipient. This will send a notification to your email when the recipient opens the email. To request a read receipt in Gmail:
    • Compose a new email or reply to an existing one.
    • Click the three vertical dots at the bottom of the compose window.
    • Select "Request read receipt."
    • The recipient will receive a notification asking if they want to grant you a read receipt.
  2. Tracking: Some email providers, like Gmail, offer tracking features that allow you to see when an email is opened. This can be useful, but it's not foolproof, as the recipient can still delete the email or turn off tracking.
  3. Email Client Features: Some email clients, like Microsoft Outlook, offer features like "Read Receipt" or "Delivery Report" that can help you track whether an email has been read.
  4. Check the Email Thread: If you're part of a conversation with the recipient, you can check the email thread to see if they've responded or engaged with your email.
  5. Wait for a Response: If you're waiting for a response from the recipient, you can wait for them to reply or respond to your email.
  6. Use Third-Party Tools: There are third-party tools and plugins available that can help you track email opens, such as:
    • Mailtrack (Chrome extension)
    • Email Hunter (Chrome extension)
    • Yesware (add-on for Gmail and Outlook)

Keep in mind that these methods are not foolproof, and the recipient may still not read your email even if you use one of these methods.
