How to date format in mail merge

In Microsoft Word's mail merge feature, you can format dates in various ways using the Format option in the Merge Field dialog box. Here are the steps:

  1. Open your Word document and go to the "Mailings" tab in the ribbon.
  2. Click on "Select Recipients" and choose your recipient list.
  3. Click on "Insert Merge Field" and select the date field you want to format (e.g., DateOfBirth).
  4. Right-click on the inserted field and select "Format" from the context menu.
  5. In the "Format" dialog box, select the "Date" option from the "Category" dropdown list.
  6. Choose the desired date format from the "Format" dropdown list. You can select from a variety of formats, such as:
    • mm/dd/yyyy
    • dd/mm/yyyy
    • yyyy-mm-dd
    • dd MMM yyyy (e.g., "12 Jan 2023")
    • MMM dd, yyyy (e.g., "Jan 12, 2023")
    • yyyy MMM dd (e.g., "2023 Jan 12")
  7. Click "OK" to apply the format.

Alternatively, you can use the Format option in the Merge Field dialog box to apply a custom date format. To do this:

  1. Follow steps 1-3 above.
  2. Right-click on the inserted field and select "Format" from the context menu.
  3. In the "Format" dialog box, select the "Custom" option from the "Category" dropdown list.
  4. Enter your custom date format using the following syntax:
    • dd/mm/yyyy (e.g., "12/01/2023")
    • yyyy-mm-dd (e.g., "2023-01-12")
    • dd MMM yyyy (e.g., "12 Jan 2023")
    • MMM dd, yyyy (e.g., "Jan 12, 2023")
    • yyyy MMM dd (e.g., "2023 Jan 12")
  5. Click "OK" to apply the custom format.

Note that the date format you choose will be applied to all occurrences of the date field in your mail merge document.
