How to force quit mail
The frustration of a stuck email client! Here are some ways to force quit Mail on your Mac:
Method 1: Using the Force Quit feature
- Press
Command (⌘) + Option (⌥) + Esc
to open the Force Quit window. - Select "Mail" from the list of running applications.
- Click the "Force Quit" button.
Method 2: Using Activity Monitor
- Open the Activity Monitor app, which can be found in the Applications/Utilities folder or by searching for it in Spotlight.
- Click on the "CPU" tab.
- Find the "Mail" process in the list and select it.
- Click the "Quit Process" button in the top-right corner of the window.
Method 3: Using the Terminal
- Open the Terminal app, which can be found in the Applications/Utilities folder or by searching for it in Spotlight.
- Type the following command and press Enter:
killall Mail
- This will force quit the Mail app.
Method 4: Using the Dock
- Click and hold on the Mail icon in the Dock until a menu appears.
- Select "Quit" from the menu.
Method 5: Using the Apple Menu
- Click on the Apple menu in the top-left corner of the screen.
- Select "Force Quit" from the menu.
- Select "Mail" from the list of running applications.
- Click the "Force Quit" button.
Remember to save any unsaved emails or drafts before force quitting Mail, as this may cause you to lose any unsaved work.
