How to have mail delivery hold
Having your mail delivery hold is a convenient way to prevent mail from being delivered to your mailbox while you're away or to prevent unauthorized access to your mail. Here's how to do it:
USPS (United States Postal Service)
- Go to the USPS website (www.usps.com) and click on "Hold Mail" under the "Mail & Ship" tab.
- Sign in to your USPS account or create one if you don't have one.
- Enter your name, address, and the dates you want to hold your mail.
- Choose the type of mail you want to hold (e.g., all mail, packages, or specific types of mail).
- Confirm your request and pay any applicable fees (if you're not a USPS customer).
USPS Mobile App
- Download the USPS Mobile App (available for iOS and Android devices).
- Sign in to your USPS account or create one if you don't have one.
- Tap on "Hold Mail" and follow the prompts to enter your name, address, and the dates you want to hold your mail.
- Choose the type of mail you want to hold and confirm your request.
In-Person
- Visit your local post office and speak with a postal employee.
- Provide your name, address, and the dates you want to hold your mail.
- Let the employee know what type of mail you want to hold (e.g., all mail, packages, or specific types of mail).
- They will process your request and provide you with a confirmation number.
Fees
There may be a fee associated with holding your mail, depending on the type of service you choose. Here are the current fees:
- USPS Hold Mail Service: $1.00 per day (minimum 3-day hold)
- USPS Hold Mail Service with Package Delivery: $1.50 per day (minimum 3-day hold)
Important Notes
- You can hold your mail for up to 30 days.
- If you're holding your mail for an extended period, you may want to consider having your mail forwarded to a different address.
- If you're holding your mail due to a vacation or temporary absence, you may want to consider asking a trusted neighbor or friend to collect your mail for you.
Remember to cancel your hold request when you return or when you no longer need it to ensure your mail is delivered as usual.
