How to know mail is read or not in gmail

In Gmail, there are a few ways to determine if an email has been read or not:

  1. Read Receipt: You can request a read receipt from the sender by clicking on the three vertical dots next to the "Reply" button and selecting "Request read receipt". This will send a notification to the sender when you open the email. However, this feature is not enabled by default, and the recipient needs to have it enabled on their end as well.
  2. Email Headers: You can check the email headers to see if the email has been opened. To do this, click on the three vertical dots next to the "Reply" button and select "Show original". This will open the email headers in a new window. Look for the "Received" headers, which will indicate when the email was received and opened. However, this method is not foolproof, as some email clients may not include this information.
  3. Gmail's "Read" Indicator: Gmail displays a small blue dot next to the sender's name in the inbox if the email has been read. This indicator is only visible if you have the "Show read receipts" option enabled in your Gmail settings.
  4. Third-Party Browser Extensions: There are several browser extensions available that can track email opens, such as Email Tracker or Open Tracker. These extensions can provide more detailed information about when and how often an email is opened.
  5. Gmail's "Open Tracking" Feature: Gmail has a built-in feature called "Open tracking" that allows you to track when an email is opened. To enable this feature, go to your Gmail settings, click on the "General" tab, and scroll down to the "Open tracking" section. Click on the toggle button to enable it. When an email is opened, you'll receive a notification in your inbox.

Keep in mind that some email clients, such as Outlook or Yahoo Mail, may not display the same indicators as Gmail. Additionally, some email providers may have their own methods for tracking email opens, so it's always a good idea to check with the sender or recipient to confirm whether an email has been read.
