How to know whether mail is read in gmail

In Gmail, there are a few ways to determine whether an email has been read:

  1. Read Receipt: You can request a read receipt from the sender by clicking on the three vertical dots next to the "Reply" button and selecting "Request read receipt". This will send a notification to the sender when you open the email.
  2. Email Headers: You can check the email headers to see if the email has been opened. To do this, click on the three vertical dots next to the "Reply" button and select "Show original". This will open the email headers in a new window. Look for the "X-Gmail-Viewed" header, which indicates whether the email has been opened.
  3. Gmail's "Viewed" Indicator: If you're using the Gmail web interface, you can look for a small "Viewed" indicator next to the sender's name in the email list. This indicator is only visible if the email has been opened.
  4. Gmail's "Read" Timestamp: If you're using the Gmail web interface, you can also look for a timestamp next to the email subject line. This timestamp indicates when the email was last read.
  5. Third-Party Browser Extensions: There are several third-party browser extensions available that can track whether an email has been read in Gmail. Some popular options include:
    • Email Tracker: This extension adds a "Read" indicator to the email list and also provides a detailed report of who has opened your emails.
    • Read Receipt: This extension allows you to request read receipts from senders and also provides a list of emails that have been opened.
    • Email Hunter: This extension provides a detailed report of who has opened your emails and also allows you to track email opens in real-time.

Please note that some of these methods may not work if the sender has disabled read receipts or if the email is opened in a different browser or device.
