How to read windows live mail files
Windows Live Mail (WLM) is a discontinued email client developed by Microsoft, and its files are not compatible with modern email clients or operating systems. However, you can still read WLM files using a few methods:
Method 1: Importing WLM files into Outlook
- Open Microsoft Outlook (2010 or later) and go to File > Open & Export > Import/Export.
- Select Import from another program or file and choose Windows Live Mail.
- Follow the prompts to import your WLM files into Outlook.
Method 2: Using a third-party converter
There are several third-party tools available that can convert WLM files to a format compatible with modern email clients, such as:
- EML to PST Converter: A free tool that converts WLM files to PST format, which can be imported into Outlook.
- Windows Live Mail Converter: A paid tool that converts WLM files to various formats, including EML, PST, and MSG.
- MailDroid: A free Android app that can convert WLM files to EML format.
Method 3: Using a web-based email client
If you don't want to install any software, you can use a web-based email client like Zoho Mail or GMX Mail to read your WLM files. These services allow you to upload your WLM files and access them online.
Method 4: Using a virtual machine or emulator
If you have an old Windows installation or a virtual machine, you can install Windows Live Mail on it and access your WLM files directly.
Important notes:
- WLM files are not compatible with modern email clients like Gmail, Yahoo Mail, or Outlook.com.
- WLM files may not be compatible with newer versions of Outlook, so you may need to use an older version of Outlook to import them.
- Some WLM files may not be readable due to corruption or compatibility issues.
Before attempting to read your WLM files, make sure you have a backup of your emails, as the conversion process may not be 100% successful.
