How to request read receipt in windows mail
Windows Mail, which is a built-in email client in Windows Vista and Windows 7, does not have a built-in feature to request a read receipt. However, you can use a third-party add-in or a workaround to achieve this. Here are a few options:
Option 1: Use a third-party add-in
You can install a third-party add-in like "Read Receipt" or "Read Notification" that adds this feature to Windows Mail. These add-ins can be downloaded from the internet and installed on your system.
Option 2: Use a workaround
You can use a workaround to request a read receipt by adding a custom header to your email. Here's how:
- Open Windows Mail and compose a new email.
- Click on the "Options" button in the "Message" tab.
- Click on the "Customize" button next to "Headers".
- In the "Customize Headers" window, click on the "New" button.
- In the "Add Header" window, enter the following information:
- Header name: "Disposition-Notification-To"
- Header value: your email address (e.g., [your_email_address]@your_domain.com)
- Click "OK" to close the "Add Header" window.
- Click "OK" to close the "Customize Headers" window.
- Send the email as you normally would.
When the recipient opens the email, they will receive a notification asking if they want to send a read receipt. If they agree, you will receive a notification that the email has been read.
Note: This workaround may not work with all email clients or servers, and some recipients may not be able to send read receipts due to their email settings or policies.
