How to return mail no longer at address
The pesky problem of mail no longer being delivered to your address!
If you're no longer at the address listed on your mail, you'll need to take steps to forward your mail or update your address with the United States Postal Service (USPS). Here's how:
Option 1: Forward Mail
- Fill out a PS Form 3575, also known as the "Mail Forwarding Request" form. You can download and print the form from the USPS website or pick one up at your local post office.
- Complete the form with your old address, new address, and the dates you want the mail to be forwarded (up to 12 months).
- Sign and date the form.
- Take the completed form to your local post office or mail it to the USPS address listed on the form.
- The USPS will forward your mail to your new address for the specified period.
Option 2: Update Your Address
- Update your address with the USPS using their online tool, USPS Address Change. You'll need to provide your old and new addresses, as well as your name and other identifying information.
- Fill out a PS Form 3575, as mentioned above, and submit it to your local post office or mail it to the USPS address listed on the form.
- If you're a business, you may need to update your address with the USPS and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) separately.
Additional Tips
- If you're moving permanently, you may want to consider setting up a Permanent Forwarding arrangement with the USPS. This will forward your mail for an extended period (up to 12 months) or until you notify the USPS to stop forwarding.
- If you're experiencing issues with mail not being delivered to your new address, you may want to contact your local post office or file a complaint with the USPS.
- Don't forget to update your address with other relevant parties, such as your bank, credit card company, loan providers, and subscription services.
By following these steps, you should be able to ensure that your mail is forwarded to your new address or updated to reflect your change of address.
