How to set up gmail in apple mail
To set up Gmail in Apple Mail on your Mac or iOS device, follow these steps:
For Mac:
- Open Apple Mail on your Mac.
- Click on "Mail" in the top menu bar and select "Preferences" (or use the keyboard shortcut Command + comma).
- Click on the "Accounts" tab.
- Click the "+" button at the bottom left corner of the window.
- Select "Other Mail Account" from the dropdown menu.
- Enter your Gmail address and password in the required fields.
- Click "Continue".
- Select "IMAP" as the account type (this allows you to access your Gmail inbox and folders on your Mac).
- Enter the following settings:
- Host Name: imap.gmail.com
- Port: 993
- Username: your Gmail address
- Password: your Gmail password
- Click "Create" to create the account.
- Click "Done" to close the preferences window.
For iOS:
- Open the "Settings" app on your iOS device.
- Tap on "Mail, Contacts, Calendars".
- Tap on "Add Account".
- Select "Other" from the list of account types.
- Tap on "Add Mail Account".
- Enter your Gmail address and password in the required fields.
- Tap "Next".
- Select "IMAP" as the account type (this allows you to access your Gmail inbox and folders on your iOS device).
- Enter the following settings:
- Host Name: imap.gmail.com
- Port: 993
- Username: your Gmail address
- Password: your Gmail password
- Tap "Save" to save the account settings.
Additional Settings:
- To enable two-factor authentication (2FA) for your Gmail account, go to the "Security" tab in your Gmail account settings and enable 2FA. Then, in Apple Mail, go to "Mail" > "Preferences" > "Accounts" and select your Gmail account. Click on the "Advanced" tab and enter your 2FA code in the "Authentication" section.
- To set up labels (folders) in Apple Mail, go to "Mail" > "Preferences" > "Accounts" and select your Gmail account. Click on the "Labels" tab and select the labels you want to sync with Apple Mail.
That's it! Your Gmail account should now be set up in Apple Mail.
