How to setup gmail in apple mail
To set up Gmail in Apple Mail on your Mac or iOS device, follow these steps:
For Mac:
- Open Apple Mail on your Mac.
- Click on "Mail" in the top menu bar and select "Preferences" (or use the keyboard shortcut Command + comma).
- Click on the "Accounts" tab.
- Click the "+" button at the bottom left corner of the window.
- Select "Other Mail Account" from the dropdown menu.
- Enter your Gmail address and password in the required fields.
- Click "Continue".
- Select "IMAP" as the account type (this allows you to access your Gmail inbox and folders on your Mac).
- Enter the following settings:
- Incoming Mail Server: imap.gmail.com
- Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP): smtp.gmail.com
- User Name: your Gmail address
- Password: your Gmail password
- Click "Create" to create the account.
- Apple Mail will verify the account settings. If everything is correct, you'll see a success message.
For iOS:
- Open the "Settings" app on your iOS device.
- Tap on "Mail, Contacts, Calendars".
- Tap on "Add Account".
- Select "Other" from the list of account types.
- Tap on "Add Mail Account".
- Enter your Gmail address and password in the required fields.
- Tap "Next".

Additional Tips:
- Make sure you have 2-factor authentication (2FA) enabled on your Gmail account. This adds an extra layer of security to your account.
- If you're using 2FA, you'll need to generate an App Password for Apple Mail. To do this, go to your Google Account settings, click on "Security", and then click on "App passwords". Follow the instructions to generate a password.
