A blast from the past!

Hotmail is a web-based email service that was launched in 1996 by Sabeer Bhatia and Jack Smith. It was one of the first free web-based email services and quickly gained popularity due to its ease of use and accessibility.

In 1997, Hotmail was acquired by Microsoft for $400 million, and it became a subsidiary of the company. Over the years, Hotmail continued to evolve and add new features, including support for attachments, spam filtering, and integration with other Microsoft services like Outlook and Windows Live.

In 2012, Microsoft announced that it would be replacing Hotmail with Outlook.com, a new web-based email service that would offer a more modern and streamlined user experience. As a result, Hotmail's domain name was redirected to Outlook.com, and users were encouraged to switch to the new service.

Today, Outlook.com is still a popular email service, and it continues to offer many of the same features and benefits that made Hotmail popular in the first place. However, the Hotmail brand is no longer actively used by Microsoft, and the original Hotmail.com domain is now a redirect to Outlook.com.
