Is royal mail signed for the same as recorded delivery
In the UK, Royal Mail offers two types of services that provide proof of delivery: Signed For and Recorded Delivery. While both services offer similar benefits, there are some key differences:
Signed For:
- The recipient signs for the item upon delivery.
- The signature is retained by Royal Mail as proof of delivery.
- The item is not insured against loss or damage.
- The service is usually cheaper than Recorded Delivery.
Recorded Delivery:
- The item is tracked and signed for upon delivery.
- The signature is retained by Royal Mail as proof of delivery.
- The item is insured against loss or damage up to a certain value (currently £50 for standard Recorded Delivery and £500 for Special Delivery Recorded).
- The service is more expensive than Signed For.
In summary:
- Signed For provides proof of delivery, but does not offer insurance against loss or damage.
- Recorded Delivery provides proof of delivery, insurance against loss or damage, and tracking.
If you want to ensure that your item is delivered safely and securely, and you're willing to pay a bit more, Recorded Delivery might be the better choice. However, if you're on a tighter budget and just need proof of delivery, Signed For could be sufficient.
