Is ubmail based on exchange

UBMail, the email service provided by the University of Buffalo (UB), is not directly based on Microsoft Exchange. However, it does use some Exchange-like features and technologies.

UBMail is built on top of Google Workspace (formerly G Suite), which is a suite of productivity apps developed by Google. Google Workspace includes Gmail, Google Drive, Google Docs, and other apps that provide email, file storage, and collaboration tools.

While UBMail is not a traditional Exchange-based email system, it does offer some Exchange-like features, such as:

  1. Calendar integration: UBMail integrates with Google Calendar, allowing users to schedule meetings and events.
  2. Contact management: UBMail allows users to manage their contacts and groups, similar to Exchange's contact management features.
  3. Email threading: UBMail uses a threading system to group related emails together, similar to Exchange's conversation view.
  4. Search and filtering: UBMail provides advanced search and filtering capabilities, similar to Exchange's search and filtering features.

However, UBMail is not a full-fledged Exchange server, and it does not support all the features and protocols that Exchange provides. For example, UBMail does not support Exchange's Active Directory integration, public folders, or some of the more advanced security features.

Overall, while UBMail is not based on Exchange, it does offer some similar features and technologies that provide a similar email and collaboration experience.
