Junk mail filter in outlook
The joys of junk mail! Outlook provides a built-in junk mail filter to help you manage unwanted emails. Here's how to set it up and use it:
Enabling the Junk Mail Filter
- Open Outlook and go to the "Home" tab in the ribbon.
- Click on the "Junk" button in the "Move" group.
- Select "Junk E-mail Options" from the dropdown menu.
- In the "Junk E-mail Options" window, click on the "Filters" tab.
- Check the box next to "Turn on junk email filtering" to enable the filter.
Customizing the Junk Mail Filter
- In the "Filters" tab, you can specify the level of junk mail filtering you want:
- "Low" filtering is more lenient and may allow some legitimate emails to be marked as junk.
- "High" filtering is more aggressive and may incorrectly mark some legitimate emails as junk.
- You can also specify the types of emails you want to be filtered out, such as:
- Spam
- Phishing
- Suspicious
- Junk
- Click "OK" to save your changes.
Managing Junk Mail
- To view your junk mail folder, go to the "Home" tab and click on the "Junk" button, then select "Junk E-mail" from the dropdown menu.
- You can also use the "Junk" button to move an email from your inbox to the junk mail folder.
- If you receive an email that is incorrectly marked as junk, you can mark it as "Not Junk" by right-clicking on the email and selecting "Mark as Not Junk".
Additional Tips
- You can also use third-party junk mail filters, such as SpamAssassin or SpamSieve, to supplement Outlook's built-in filter.
- Be cautious when marking emails as "Not Junk", as this can help train the filter to be more accurate, but it can also allow more spam to reach your inbox.
- Consider setting up a separate email account for newsletters and promotional emails, and use a filter to automatically move these emails to a separate folder.
By following these steps, you can help keep your inbox clean and reduce the amount of junk mail you receive.
