Live mail spam filter

The eternal struggle against spam!

Live Mail, a free email client from Microsoft, comes with a built-in spam filter that helps to block unwanted emails from reaching your inbox. Here's how to use and customize the spam filter in Live Mail:

Enabling the Spam Filter

  1. Open Live Mail and go to Tools > Options.
  2. Click on the Spam Filter tab.
  3. Check the box next to Enable spam filtering.

Customizing the Spam Filter

  1. You can adjust the sensitivity of the spam filter by moving the Spam filter sensitivity slider. A higher sensitivity will catch more spam, but may also flag some legitimate emails as spam.
  2. You can also add specific senders or domains to the Safe Senders list, which will ensure that emails from those addresses are never marked as spam.
  3. Conversely, you can add specific senders or domains to the Blocked Senders list, which will ensure that emails from those addresses are always marked as spam.
  4. You can also specify a Spam folder where emails marked as spam will be moved.

Reporting Spam

  1. If an email is incorrectly marked as spam, you can report it as not spam by right-clicking on the email and selecting Mark as not spam.
  2. This will help the spam filter learn and improve its accuracy over time.

Additional Tips

  1. Keep your Live Mail software up to date to ensure you have the latest spam filter updates.
  2. Be cautious when opening attachments or clicking links from unknown senders, as they may be phishing attempts or malware.
  3. Consider using a third-party spam filter plugin or service, such as SpamAssassin or SpamSieve, which can provide additional protection against spam.

By following these steps and tips, you can help keep your Live Mail inbox free from spam and stay safe online!
