Live.com hotmail
A blast from the past!
Live.com and Hotmail are both legacy email services from Microsoft. Here's a brief history:
- Hotmail (1996-2012): Hotmail was one of the first free web-based email services, launched by Sabeer Bhatia and Jack Smith in 1996. It was acquired by Microsoft in 1997 for $400 million. Hotmail was popular in the late 1990s and early 2000s, but its user base declined as other email services like Gmail and Yahoo! Mail gained popularity.
- Live.com (2005-2012): Live.com was a web-based email service launched by Microsoft in 2005, as part of its Windows Live suite of services. It was designed to be a more modern and feature-rich alternative to Hotmail. Live.com allowed users to access their email, calendar, contacts, and other services from a single interface.
- Merger and rebranding (2012): In 2012, Microsoft decided to merge Hotmail and Live.com into a single service, rebranding it as Outlook.com. The new service combined the best features of both services, including the ability to access email, calendar, contacts, and other services from a single interface.
Today, Outlook.com is still a popular email service, offering a range of features, including:
- Free email accounts with 5 GB of storage
- Integration with Microsoft Office Online and other Microsoft services
- Calendar and contact management
- Support for attachments and file sharing
- Mobile apps for Android and iOS devices
