Here's a recipe to make a Lou Malnati's-style mail pizza at home:
Ingredients:
For the crust:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon active dry yeast
- 1/2 cup warm water
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
For the filling:
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/2 cup chopped fresh parsley
- 1/2 cup chopped fresh basil
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh oregano
- 1/2 cup sliced pepperoni
- 1/2 cup sliced sausage
- 1/2 cup sliced mushrooms
- 1/2 cup sliced onions
- 1/2 cup sliced bell peppers
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh garlic
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- Make the crust: In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, salt, and yeast. Gradually add the warm water and melted butter, mixing until a dough forms. Knead the dough for 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours, or until it has doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough and roll it out into a circle or rectangle shape, about 1/4 inch thick.
- Place the dough in a 9x13-inch baking dish and press it into the corners.
- Spread the filling: Sprinkle the mozzarella, cheddar, and Parmesan cheese evenly over the dough. Add the chopped parsley, basil, oregano, pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms, onions, bell peppers, and garlic.
- Fold the crust: Fold the edges of the crust up over the filling, creating a thick crust. Brush the crust with a little bit of water and sprinkle with a pinch of salt.
- Bake the pizza: Bake the pizza for 25-30 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
