Mac mail outbox missing

The frustration of a missing Outbox in Mac Mail!

Don't worry, I'm here to help you troubleshoot the issue. Here are some steps to try and recover your missing Outbox:

  1. Check the Mailbox List: Make sure the Outbox is not hidden or moved to a different mailbox. Go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts > [Your Account Name] > Mailbox Behaviors. Ensure that "Outbox" is selected under "On Send" and "On Delete".
  2. Search for the Outbox: Press Command + Shift + F to open the Search field in Mail. Type "Outbox" and press Enter. If the Outbox is found, it might be hidden or moved to a different location.
  3. Check the Trash: Sometimes, the Outbox might be accidentally moved to the Trash. Go to Mail > Trash and check if the Outbox is there. If it is, you can restore it by dragging it back to the Outbox folder.
  4. Reset the Outbox: Try resetting the Outbox by going to Mail > Preferences > Accounts > [Your Account Name] > Outbox. Click the "Reset" button and then restart Mail.
  5. Check for Corrupted Mail Data: If none of the above steps work, it's possible that the Outbox data is corrupted. Try resetting the Mail database by going to Terminal (in Applications/Utilities) and typing the following command: sqlite3 ~/Library/Mail/V2/Mail.db "DELETE FROM messages WHERE flags = 2" (Note: This will delete all messages with the "Flagged" status, so use with caution!)
  6. Recreate the Outbox: If all else fails, you can try recreating the Outbox by creating a new mailbox with the same name. Go to Mail > File > New Mailbox, name it "Outbox", and set it as the default Outbox folder.
  7. Reinstall Mail: As a last resort, you can try reinstalling Mail by going to System Preferences > Users & Groups > [Your User Name] > Login Items, and removing Mail from the list. Then, restart your Mac and reinstall Mail from the App Store.

If none of these steps work, you may want to consider seeking assistance from Apple Support or a professional Mac administrator.
