Mac mail outgoing server offline

The frustration of an offline outgoing server in Mac Mail!

Don't worry, I'm here to help you troubleshoot the issue. Here are some steps to help you resolve the problem:

Step 1: Check your internet connection

Make sure your internet connection is stable and working properly. Try opening a web browser and accessing a website to ensure you have a working internet connection.

Step 2: Check your account settings

  1. Open Mac Mail and go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts.
  2. Select your email account from the list of accounts.
  3. Click on the "Account Information" tab.
  4. Check the "Outgoing Mail Server" (SMTP) settings:
    • Make sure the server is set to the correct SMTP server for your email provider (e.g., smtp.gmail.com for Gmail).
    • Ensure the port number is correct (usually 587 or 25).
    • Verify the username and password are correct.

Step 3: Check your firewall settings

  1. Go to System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Firewall.
  2. Click on the "Firewall Options" button.
  3. Make sure the "Mail" application is allowed to connect to the internet.

Step 4: Check your DNS settings

  1. Go to System Preferences > Network > Advanced > DNS.
  2. Check that your DNS settings are correct and up-to-date.

Step 5: Restart your Mac and Mail

  1. Restart your Mac to ensure all processes are refreshed.
  2. Open Mac Mail and try sending an email again.

Step 6: Check for server issues

  1. Visit your email provider's website or check their status page to see if there are any known issues with their servers.
  2. If you're using a third-party email service, check their status page or contact their support team.

Step 7: Reset your Mail settings

  1. Go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts.
  2. Select your email account from the list of accounts.
  3. Click on the "Reset" button next to "Account Information".
  4. Follow the prompts to reset your account settings.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, you may want to try resetting your Mac's Network Settings or seeking further assistance from Apple Support or your email provider's support team.
