Mac mail spam filter
The eternal struggle against spam!
Mac Mail, like many other email clients, comes with a built-in spam filter to help you manage unwanted emails. Here's how to use and customize the spam filter in Mac Mail:
Enabling the Spam Filter
- Open Mac Mail and go to Mail > Preferences.
- Click on the General tab.
- Check the box next to Enable spam filtering.
Customizing the Spam Filter
- In the General tab, you can adjust the following settings:
- Spam filter sensitivity: Choose from three levels: Low, Medium, or High. A higher sensitivity will catch more spam, but may also flag some legitimate emails as spam.
- Spam filter language: Select the language you prefer for spam filter messages.
- You can also add specific senders or domains to the Blocked Senders list to prevent emails from those addresses from reaching your inbox.
- To add a sender or domain to the Blocked Senders list:
- Go to Mail > Preferences > General.
- Click on the Blocked Senders tab.
- Click the + button and enter the sender's email address or domain.
- You can also add specific keywords or phrases to the Spam Filter Keywords list to help the filter catch more spam.
- To add a keyword or phrase:
- Go to Mail > Preferences > General.
- Click on the Spam Filter Keywords tab.
- Click the + button and enter the keyword or phrase.
Managing Spam
- When Mac Mail flags an email as spam, it will move it to the Junk mailbox.
- You can review the Junk mailbox regularly to ensure that legitimate emails are not being incorrectly flagged as spam.
- If you receive a legitimate email that was incorrectly flagged as spam, you can mark it as Not Junk by right-clicking (or control-clicking) on the email and selecting Mark as Not Junk.
- Conversely, if you receive a spam email that was not flagged as spam, you can mark it as Junk by right-clicking (or control-clicking) on the email and selecting Mark as Junk.
By following these steps, you can customize the spam filter in Mac Mail to help keep your inbox clean and free from unwanted emails.
