Mail divert post office
A common question!
If you need to divert mail to a different address, you can do so through the United States Postal Service (USPS) or your local post office. Here are the steps:
USPS Online
- Go to the USPS website (www.usps.com) and sign in to your account.
- Click on "Hold Mail" or "Forward Mail" under the "Mail & Shipping" tab.
- Enter the new address where you want your mail to be forwarded.
- Choose the duration for which you want to divert your mail (e.g., 1 month, 3 months, etc.).
- Confirm your changes.
Post Office
- Visit your local post office with a valid government-issued ID.
- Inform the postal clerk that you want to divert your mail to a different address.
- Provide the new address where you want your mail to be forwarded.
- Specify the duration for which you want to divert your mail (e.g., 1 month, 3 months, etc.).
- The clerk will assist you with the process and provide a confirmation receipt.
Note: If you're diverting mail to a different address within the same city or zip code, you may not need to fill out a formal request. Simply inform the postal clerk of the change, and they will update your address.
Additional Tips:
- If you're diverting mail to a temporary address, you may want to consider setting up a temporary forwarding address with the USPS.
- If you're moving permanently, you'll need to update your address with the USPS and your other relevant institutions (e.g., banks, credit cards, etc.).
- Keep in mind that diverting mail may take a few days to take effect, so plan accordingly.
