Mail folders in gmail

In Gmail, a mail folder is a way to categorize and organize your emails into separate sections. Here are some common types of mail folders in Gmail:

  1. Inbox: This is the default folder where new emails arrive.
  2. Sent: This folder contains emails you've sent to others.
  3. Drafts: This folder contains emails you've started composing but haven't sent yet.
  4. Spam: This folder contains emails that Gmail's filters have flagged as spam.
  5. Trash: This folder contains emails you've deleted, but you can recover them if needed.
  6. All Mail: This folder contains all your emails, including those in your Inbox, Sent, and Spam folders.
  7. Starred: This folder contains emails you've marked with a star, which helps you quickly find important messages.
  8. Unread: This folder contains emails you haven't read yet.
  9. Priority: This folder contains emails that Gmail's filters have marked as high-priority.
  10. Custom folders: You can create custom folders to organize your emails by topic, project, or category.

To create a custom folder in Gmail:

  1. Log in to your Gmail account.
  2. Click on the gear icon in the upper right corner and select "See all settings."
  3. Click on the "Filters and Blocked Addresses" tab.
  4. Click on the "Create a new filter" button.
  5. Enter a name for your folder and a filter criteria (e.g., "From: [specific email address]").
  6. Click on the "Create" button.
  7. Your new folder will be created and appear in your Gmail sidebar.

You can also use Gmail's built-in labels to categorize your emails. Labels are similar to folders, but they don't create a separate folder in your inbox. Instead, they add a label to the email, making it easier to search and filter.
