Mail merge number format thousand separator
When using mail merge in Microsoft Word, you can format the number fields to include a thousand separator using the following steps:
- Open your Word document and go to the "Mailings" tab in the ribbon.
- Click on the "Select Recipients" button and choose the data source you want to use for your mail merge.
- Click on the "Insert Merge Field" button and select the field you want to format (e.g. "Amount").
- Right-click on the field and select "Format Field".
- In the "Format Field" dialog box, click on the "Number" tab.
- In the "Number" tab, select the "Custom" option from the "Category" dropdown menu.
- In the "Format" field, enter the following format code:
#,###,##0.00
- Click "OK" to close the "Format Field" dialog box.
The #,###,##0.00
format code tells Word to:
- Use a comma (

) as the thousand separator - Use a period (
.
) as the decimal separator - Display two decimal places
This will format the number field to include a thousand separator, like this: 1,234.00
.
Alternatively, you can also use the "Number" dialog box to format the number field. To do this:
- Right-click on the field and select "Format Field".
- In the "Format Field" dialog box, click on the "Number" tab.
- Click on the "Number" button to open the "Number" dialog box.
- In the "Number" dialog box, select the "Custom" option from the "Category" dropdown menu.
- In the "Format" field, enter the same format code:
#,###,##0.00
- Click "OK" to close the "Number" dialog box.
Either method will apply the thousand separator to the number field in your mail merge.
