In 1954, Syrjäniemi created the character of Vampira, a spooky and seductive hostess for a local Los Angeles television show called "The Vampira Show." The show was a huge success, and Syrjäniemi's Vampira became a cult icon, known for her dark humor, campy style, and eerie presence.

Syrjäniemi's Vampira character was a major influence on later horror hosts, including Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, and has been referenced and parodied in numerous films, TV shows, and music videos.
