Mailbox planter plans
A mailbox planter is a great way to add some greenery to your outdoor space while also keeping your mailbox organized and tidy. Here are some plans to help you build a mailbox planter:
Materials Needed:
- 1" x 6" x 6' cedar or pine wood (for the planter box)
- 1" x 4" x 6' cedar or pine wood (for the back and sides of the planter box)
- Wood screws
- Wood glue
- Weather-resistant wood finish (optional)
- Mailbox (standard size: 6" x 6" x 18")
- Soil and plants of your choice
Instructions:
- Cut the 1" x 6" wood into four pieces, each 18" long. These will be the sides of the planter box.
- Cut the 1" x 4" wood into two pieces, each 18" long. These will be the back and front of the planter box.
- Assemble the planter box by screwing the sides to the back and front pieces using wood screws. Make sure the corners are secure and the box is square.
- Cut a hole in the front of the planter box, just large enough to fit your mailbox. The hole should be centered and about 6" from the top of the box.
- Attach the mailbox to the planter box using wood screws. Make sure it is secure and level.
- Add a bottom to the planter box by cutting a piece of 1" x 6" wood to fit inside the box. This will help prevent soil from spilling out.
- Add soil and plants to the planter box. You can use a variety of plants, such as succulents, herbs, or flowers.
- Add a weather-resistant wood finish to protect the planter box from the elements.
Tips and Variations:
- Use a waterproof glue to seal any gaps or cracks in the planter box.
- Add a trellis or other support system to help plants grow upwards.
- Use a different type of wood or stain to give the planter box a unique look.
- Add a roof or lid to the planter box to protect the plants from the elements.
- Use a self-watering system or irrigation system to make caring for the plants easier.
- Add a decorative trim or molding to the planter box for a finished look.
Design Ideas:
- Modern: Use a sleek and modern design with clean lines and a minimalist aesthetic.
- Rustic: Use a distressed or weathered wood finish to give the planter box a rustic look.
- Coastal: Use a light-colored wood and add a coastal-themed design, such as a seashell or starfish, to the planter box.
- Whimsical: Use a bright and bold color scheme and add whimsical designs, such as flowers or butterflies, to the planter box.
I hope these plans and tips help you build a beautiful and functional mailbox planter!
