The excitement of waiting for your tax refund! Here's how to track the status of your mailed tax refund:
Method 1: Check the IRS Website
- Go to the IRS website at www.irs.gov.
- Click on "Get Your Refund Status" under the "Refunds" tab.
- Enter your Social Security number or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN), filing status, and exact refund amount.
- Click "Submit" to check the status of your refund.
Method 2: Use the IRS2Go Mobile App
- Download the IRS2Go mobile app from the App Store (for iOS devices) or Google Play (for Android devices).
- Open the app and select "Refund Status" from the main menu.
- Enter your Social Security number or ITIN, filing status, and exact refund amount.
- Click "Submit" to check the status of your refund.
Method 3: Call the IRS
- Call the IRS Refund Hotline at 1-800-829-1040 (Monday to Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. local time).
- Have your Social Security number or ITIN, filing status, and exact refund amount ready.
- Ask the representative to check the status of your refund.
What to Expect
When you check the status of your mailed tax refund, you may see one of the following messages:
- "Return Received": Your refund has been received by the IRS and is being processed.
- "Refund Approved": Your refund has been approved and is being processed.
- "Refund Sent": Your refund has been mailed to you.
- "Refund Delayed": There may be an issue with your refund, and you'll need to contact the IRS for more information.
Remember to allow 4-6 weeks for your refund to be processed and mailed to you. If you haven't received your refund after 6 weeks, you can contact the IRS for assistance.
