To set up Outlook 2017 to connect to Hotmail using POP3, follow these steps:

Step 1: Create an app password

Since you're using Outlook 2017, you'll need to create an app password to use with your Hotmail account. Here's how:

  1. Sign in to your Hotmail account.
  2. Click on your profile picture or initials in the top right corner, then select "View account" from the dropdown menu.
  3. Click on "Security" from the menu on the left.
  4. Scroll down to the "App passwords" section.
  5. Click on "Generate" to create a new app password.
  6. Enter a name for the app password (e.g., "Outlook 2017").
  7. Click "Generate" to create the password.

Step 2: Set up Outlook 2017

  1. Open Outlook 2017 and go to "File" > "Account Settings" > "Account Settings" again.
  2. Click on "New" to add a new email account.
  3. Select "Manual setup or additional server types" and click "Next".
  4. Select "POP or IMAP" and click "Next".
  5. Enter the following settings:
    • Your name: Your name as you want it to appear in the From field.
    • Email address: Your Hotmail email address.
    • POP3 server: pop.live.com
    • Port: 995
    • Username: Your Hotmail email address.
    • Password: The app password you created earlier.
    • Require logon using Secure Password Authentication (SPA): Leave this unchecked.
  6. Click "Next" and then "Finish" to complete the setup.

Step 3: Configure Outlook 2017

  1. Go to "File" > "Account Settings" > "Account Settings" again.
  2. Select your Hotmail account and click "Change".
  3. In the "Change E-mail Account" window, select "More Settings" and then click "Advanced".
  4. Under "Outgoing server", select "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication" and select "Use same settings as my incoming mail server".
  5. Click "OK" to save the changes.

That's it! Your Outlook 2017 should now be set up to connect to your Hotmail account using POP3.
