To set up Outlook 2017 to connect to Hotmail using POP3, follow these steps:
Step 1: Create an app password
Since you're using Outlook 2017, you'll need to create an app password to use with your Hotmail account. Here's how:
- Sign in to your Hotmail account.
- Click on your profile picture or initials in the top right corner, then select "View account" from the dropdown menu.
- Click on "Security" from the menu on the left.
- Scroll down to the "App passwords" section.
- Click on "Generate" to create a new app password.
- Enter a name for the app password (e.g., "Outlook 2017").
- Click "Generate" to create the password.
Step 2: Set up Outlook 2017
- Open Outlook 2017 and go to "File" > "Account Settings" > "Account Settings" again.
- Click on "New" to add a new email account.
- Select "Manual setup or additional server types" and click "Next".
- Select "POP or IMAP" and click "Next".
- Enter the following settings:
- Your name: Your name as you want it to appear in the From field.
- Email address: Your Hotmail email address.
- POP3 server: pop.live.com
- Port: 995
- Username: Your Hotmail email address.
- Password: The app password you created earlier.
- Require logon using Secure Password Authentication (SPA): Leave this unchecked.
- Click "Next" and then "Finish" to complete the setup.
Step 3: Configure Outlook 2017
- Go to "File" > "Account Settings" > "Account Settings" again.
- Select your Hotmail account and click "Change".
- In the "Change E-mail Account" window, select "More Settings" and then click "Advanced".
- Under "Outgoing server", select "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication" and select "Use same settings as my incoming mail server".
- Click "OK" to save the changes.
That's it! Your Outlook 2017 should now be set up to connect to your Hotmail account using POP3.
