Outlook block junk mail

The eternal struggle against junk mail! Outlook provides several ways to block junk mail, also known as spam, from cluttering your inbox. Here are some methods to help you reduce the amount of unwanted emails:

  1. Junk Email Filter: Outlook has a built-in junk email filter that uses algorithms to identify and move suspected spam emails to the Junk Email folder. To enable this feature:
    • Go to Outlook's Settings (gear icon) > View all Outlook settings > Mail > Junk email.
    • Toggle the switch next to "Enable junk email filtering" to the On position.
  2. Safe Senders and Recipients: Add the email addresses of people you trust to your Safe Senders and Recipients list. This will ensure that emails from these addresses are not marked as spam:
    • Go to Outlook's Settings (gear icon) > View all Outlook settings > Mail > Junk email > Safe senders and recipients.
    • Click "Add" and enter the email address you want to add.
  3. Block Senders: If you receive emails from a specific sender that you consider spam, you can block them:
    • Open the email from the sender you want to block.
    • Click the "Junk" button in the top toolbar.
    • Click "Block" to block the sender's email address.
  4. Mark as Junk: If an email is incorrectly marked as spam, you can mark it as not junk:
    • Open the email.
    • Click the "Not junk" button in the top toolbar.
  5. Third-party Spam Filters: You can also use third-party spam filters, such as SpamAssassin or SpamSieve, which can integrate with Outlook to block junk mail.
  6. Report Spam: If an email is marked as spam, you can report it to Microsoft:
    • Open the email.
    • Click the "Report" button in the top toolbar.
    • Select "Report as spam" to report the email to Microsoft.

By combining these methods, you can significantly reduce the amount of junk mail in your Outlook inbox.
