To set up Outlook to use Hotmail's POP3 settings, follow these steps:

Step 1: Create an App Password

Before you can set up Outlook to use Hotmail's POP3 settings, you need to create an App Password. This is a 16-character password that you'll use to authenticate with Hotmail.

  1. Sign in to your Hotmail account.
  2. Click on your profile picture or initials in the top right corner, then click on "View account" from the dropdown menu.
  3. Click on "Security" from the menu on the left.
  4. Click on "App passwords" from the menu on the left.
  5. Click on "Create a new app password".
  6. Enter a name for the app password (e.g. "Outlook").
  7. Click on "Generate" to generate the 16-character password.

Step 2: Set up Outlook

Now that you have your App Password, you can set up Outlook to use Hotmail's POP3 settings.

  1. Open Outlook and go to "File" > "Account Settings" (or "Accounts" in Outlook 2019).
  2. Click on "New" to create a new email account.
  3. Select "Manual setup or additional server types" and click "Next".
  4. Select "POP3" and click "Next".
  5. Enter the following settings:
    • Your name: Enter your name as you want it to appear in the "From" field of your emails.
    • Email address: Enter your Hotmail email address.
    • POP3 server: Enter pop.live.com.
    • Port: Enter 995.
    • Username: Enter your Hotmail email address.
    • Password: Enter the App Password you created earlier.
  6. Click "Next" and then "Finish" to complete the setup process.

Step 3: Configure Outlook

Once you've set up the POP3 account, you'll need to configure Outlook to use it as your default email account.

  1. Go to "File" > "Account Settings" (or "Accounts" in Outlook 2019).
  2. Select the Hotmail account you just set up and click "Set as default".
  3. Click "OK" to save the changes.
