Yes, the United States Postal Service (USPS) allows you to forward your mail to a new address. Here's how:
Online Forwarding
- Go to the USPS website (usps.com) and sign in to your account or create a new one if you don't have one.
- Click on "Hold Mail" or "Forward Mail" under the "Mail & Ship" tab.
- Enter your current address and the new address where you want your mail forwarded.
- Choose the forwarding period: 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, or 12 months.
- Pay the forwarding fee (currently $1.05 per month for 1-3 months, $1.30 per month for 6-12 months).
In-Person Forwarding
- Take your mail to your local post office.
- Fill out a PS Form 3575, "Address Change Forwarding Service Request."
- Provide your current address and the new address where you want your mail forwarded.
- Pay the forwarding fee (currently $1.05 per month for 1-3 months, $1.30 per month for 6-12 months).
Note: You can also use the USPS Mobile App to forward your mail.
What happens to my mail?
When you forward your mail, the USPS will:
- Hold your mail at the post office for the specified forwarding period.
- Forward your mail to the new address you provided.
- Return undeliverable mail to the sender.
Tips:
- Make sure to update your address with the USPS, your bank, credit card company, and other relevant institutions.
- If you're moving internationally, you may need to use a different forwarding service.
- You can cancel your forwarding service at any time by visiting the USPS website or contacting your local post office.
