Royal Mail's Change of Address Redirection service allows you to redirect your mail to a new address while you're moving, without having to update your address with every sender individually. Here's how it works:
How to set up a Change of Address Redirection:
- Check if you're eligible: You can use this service if you're moving within the UK or to a European Union (EU) country.
- Choose your redirection period: You can select a redirection period of 3 months, 6 months, or 12 months.
- Provide your old and new addresses: Enter your current address (the one you're leaving) and your new address (the one you're moving to).
- Pay the fee: The cost of the redirection service varies depending on the length of the redirection period and the type of mail you want to redirect. The fees are as follows:
- 3 months: £33.95 (standard) or £41.95 (express)
- 6 months: £51.95 (standard) or £63.95 (express)
- 12 months: £83.95 (standard) or £103.95 (express)
- Wait for your redirection confirmation: Once you've paid, Royal Mail will send you a confirmation email with your redirection reference number.
- Update your address with senders: You don't need to inform individual senders of your new address, as Royal Mail will forward your mail to your new address.
What's included in the service:
- Forwarding of mail, including letters, parcels, and packets
- Redirection of mail to your new address, even if it's not yet registered with the Royal Mail
- Protection against identity theft, as your old address will not be publicly available
Important notes:
- The service does not cover international mail, so you'll need to update your address with senders outside the UK and EU.
- Some types of mail, such as large or heavy items, may not be eligible for redirection.
- If you're moving abroad, you may need to use a different service, such as Royal Mail's International Redirection service.
