Royal mail text scam incomplete address

A common scam!

The Royal Mail text scam is a type of phishing scam where scammers claim to be from Royal Mail and send a text message to the victim, stating that there is an issue with their delivery or package. The scammer will then ask the victim to click on a link or provide personal information to resolve the issue.

Here's an example of what the scam text message might look like:

"Dear customer, we have tried to deliver your package but the address is incomplete. Please click on the link below to update your address and ensure delivery: [link]"

The scammer is trying to trick the victim into clicking on the link, which may download malware onto their device or steal their personal information.

Here are some red flags to watch out for:

  1. The message is unsolicited: Royal Mail will not send you a text message out of the blue asking you to update your address.
  2. The message is vague: Legitimate messages from Royal Mail will usually provide specific details about the package, such as the tracking number and the reason for the delay.
  3. The message asks for personal information: Royal Mail will never ask you to provide personal information, such as your password or credit card details, via text message.

What to do if you receive this scam text:

  1. Do not click on the link: It's best to ignore the message and not click on any links or download any attachments.
  2. Report the scam: Forward the message to 7726 (the spam reporting number) or report it to Action Fraud.
  3. Verify with Royal Mail: If you're concerned about a package or delivery, contact Royal Mail directly using their official contact information.

Remember, it's always best to be cautious when receiving unsolicited messages, especially those that ask for personal information or try to trick you into clicking on links.
