Sabeer Bhatia is an Indian entrepreneur and the co-founder of Hotmail, one of the earliest and most popular web-based email services. He founded Hotmail in 1996 with Jack Smith, and the company was later acquired by Microsoft in 1997 for $400 million.

Bhatia was born in 1968 in Jalalpur, Punjab, India. He moved to the United States in the late 1980s to pursue higher education and later earned a master's degree in computer science from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).

After completing his education, Bhatia worked at several startups and companies, including Apple and Excite@Home. In 1996, he co-founded Hotmail with Jack Smith, and the company quickly gained popularity due to its free email service and innovative approach to email marketing.

Hotmail's success was largely due to its viral marketing strategy, which allowed users to invite friends to join the service by sending them an email with a link to sign up. This approach helped Hotmail grow rapidly, and by 1997, it had attracted over 10 million users.

In 1997, Microsoft acquired Hotmail for $400 million, and Bhatia became a millionaire at the age of 29. He continued to work at Microsoft for several years, serving as the general manager of the company's online services division.

After leaving Microsoft, Bhatia went on to found several other companies, including Arzoo.com, a travel booking website, and Avaz, a speech therapy app for children with autism. He has also been involved in various philanthropic efforts, including supporting education and healthcare initiatives in India.

Today, Sabeer Bhatia is considered one of the pioneers of the internet and email industry, and his legacy continues to inspire entrepreneurs and innovators around the world.
