In the United States, the United States Postal Service (USPS) uses the following scale to determine the weight-based pricing for mail:
Weight Classes:
- Letter Mail (1 oz or less): $0.55 (as of 2022)
- Large Envelope (1 oz to 2 oz): $0.85 (as of 2022)
- Flat Rate Envelope (up to 13.5 oz): $7.95 (as of 2022)
- Padded Envelope (up to 13.5 oz): $7.95 (as of 2022)
- Package (over 13.5 oz): Weight-based pricing (see below)
Weight-Based Pricing:
- 1 oz to 2 oz: $0.85
- 2 oz to 3 oz: $1.05
- 3 oz to 4 oz: $1.25
- 4 oz to 6 oz: $1.45
- 6 oz to 8 oz: $1.65
- 8 oz to 10 oz: $1.85
- 10 oz to 12 oz: $2.05
- 12 oz to 13.5 oz: $2.25
Additional Fees:
- Fuel Surcharge: 5.5% of the total postage cost (as of 2022)
- Delivery Confirmation: $0.50 (as of 2022)
- Signature Confirmation: $2.75 (as of 2022)
