Send encrypted email hotmail

Hotmail (now Outlook.com) does not have built-in encryption for sending emails. However, you can use third-party email clients or plugins to encrypt your emails. Here are a few options:

  1. PGP (Pretty Good Privacy): You can use a PGP plugin like Enigmail (for Thunderbird) or GPG Suite (for Mac) to encrypt your emails. You'll need to generate a key pair and share your public key with the recipient.
  2. S/MIME: Some email clients, like Microsoft Outlook, support S/MIME (Secure/Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions) encryption. You can use a digital certificate to encrypt your emails.
  3. End-to-End Encryption: Services like ProtonMail, Tutanota, or Mailfence offer end-to-end encryption for their users. You can use these services to send encrypted emails.
  4. Web-based encryption: Some web-based email clients, like Mailvelope or Cryptomail, offer encryption for sending emails.

Here's a step-by-step guide to send an encrypted email using Enigmail (PGP) and Thunderbird:

Prerequisites:

Sending an encrypted email:

  1. Compose a new email in Thunderbird
  2. Click on the "Security" tab in the compose window
  3. Select "PGP" as the encryption method
  4. Choose the recipient's public key from your keyring
  5. Enter a subject and message as usual
  6. Click "Send" to send the encrypted email

Receiving an encrypted email:

  1. Open the encrypted email in Thunderbird
  2. Click on the "Security" tab in the compose window
  3. Select "PGP" as the decryption method
  4. Enter your private key password (if prompted)
  5. The email will be decrypted and displayed in the compose window

Keep in mind that encryption is only as strong as the weakest link in the chain. Make sure to use a secure password, keep your key pair private, and only share your public key with trusted recipients.
