Stop the mail for vacation
A well-deserved break! Here's how to stop your mail delivery while you're on vacation:
USPS (United States Postal Service)
- Online: Go to the USPS website (usps.com) and sign in to your account. Click on "Hold Mail" and follow the prompts.
- Phone: Call the USPS at 1-800-275-8777 (1-800-ASK-USPS) and ask to hold your mail.
- In-person: Visit your local post office and ask to hold your mail.
How long can you hold your mail?
You can hold your mail for up to 30 days. If you need to hold it for a longer period, you'll need to contact your local post office to make arrangements.
Other options
- Vacation Hold: Some post offices offer a "Vacation Hold" service, which allows you to hold your mail for up to 30 days. This service is usually available at larger post offices.
- Mail Forwarding: If you're planning a longer trip or moving, you can set up mail forwarding to have your mail sent to a different address.
Tips
- Make sure to stop your mail delivery at least 3-5 business days before your trip to ensure your mail is held.
- If you have packages expected to arrive during your trip, consider having them held at the post office or delivered to a trusted neighbor or friend.
- Don't forget to stop your newspaper and magazine subscriptions as well!
Enjoy your vacation!
