Sylpheed gmail

Sylpheed is a popular open-source email client that can be used to access Gmail accounts. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you set up Sylpheed to access your Gmail account:

Prerequisites:

  1. Sylpheed email client installed on your computer (available for Windows, macOS, and Linux).
  2. A Gmail account with 2-Step Verification (2SV) enabled.

Step 1: Create an App Password

To set up Sylpheed with your Gmail account, you need to generate an App Password. This is a 16-character password that you'll use to authenticate with Sylpheed.

  1. Go to your Google Account settings by clicking on your profile picture in the top right corner of the Gmail homepage.
  2. Click on "Security" from the menu.
  3. Scroll down to the "Signing in to Google" section.
  4. Click on "App passwords" and then "Generate".
  5. Select "Other (Custom name)" and enter a name for your app password (e.g., "Sylpheed").
  6. Click "Generate" to generate the App Password.

Step 2: Set up Sylpheed

  1. Launch Sylpheed and go to "File" > "Preferences" > "Accounts".
  2. Click on "New" to create a new account.
  3. Select "IMAP" as the account type.
  4. Enter your Gmail address and the App Password you generated earlier.
  5. Set the "Incoming server" to "imap.gmail.com" and the "Port" to "993".
  6. Set the "Outgoing server" to "smtp.gmail.com" and the "Port" to "587".
  7. Click "OK" to save the account settings.

Step 3: Configure Sylpheed

  1. Go to "File" > "Preferences" > "IMAP".
  2. Set the "IMAP server" to "imap.gmail.com" and the "Port" to "993".
  3. Set the "IMAP authentication" to "Plain" and enter your Gmail address and App Password.
  4. Click "OK" to save the IMAP settings.

Step 4: Test your connection

  1. Go to "File" > "Check for new mail" to test your connection.
  2. If everything is set up correctly, you should see your Gmail inbox and be able to send and receive emails.
