Thunderbird duplicate email

The frustration of duplicate emails in Thunderbird!

There are a few ways to deal with duplicate emails in Thunderbird:

  1. Use the built-in duplicate detection feature:
    • Go to Tools > Account Settings > Server Settings > Advanced > Duplicate Detection.
    • Enable the "Detect duplicates" option.
    • Set the "Duplicate detection interval" to a value that suits your needs (e.g., 1 minute, 1 hour, etc.).
  2. Use a third-party add-on:
    • There are several add-ons available that can help you detect and remove duplicate emails, such as:
      • Duplicate Email Remover (DER)
      • Duplicate Email Detector (DED)
      • Email Duplicate Remover (EDR)
    • Install the add-on and follow its instructions to configure and use it.
  3. Use a script:
    • You can write a script using Thunderbird's scripting language (JavaScript) to detect and remove duplicate emails.
    • There are several scripts available online that you can use as a starting point, such as the "Duplicate Email Remover" script.
  4. Manually remove duplicates:
    • If you don't want to use any of the above methods, you can manually remove duplicate emails by:
      • Using the "Find" function to search for duplicate emails
      • Using the "Mark as read" or "Move to folder" function to remove the duplicates

To find duplicate emails manually:

  1. Go to the "Find" menu and select "Find Messages" (or press Ctrl + Shift + F).
  2. In the "Find Messages" dialog box, select the "Subject" field and enter a search term (e.g., " duplicate").
  3. Click "Find Now" to search for emails with the specified subject.
  4. Review the search results and remove the duplicate emails by marking them as read or moving them to a folder.

Remember to always backup your email data before making any changes to your email client or using scripts to remove duplicate emails.
