Thunderbird mail directory
The Thunderbird mail directory!
In Thunderbird, the mail directory is where all your email data is stored. By default, Thunderbird stores its data in a directory called Mail
or Thunderbird
(depending on the operating system and version). Here's where you can find it:
Windows:
%APPDATA%\Thunderbird\Profiles\<Profile Name>\Mail
(e.g.,C:\Users\<YourUsername>\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\<Profile Name>\Mail
)%APPDATA%\Thunderbird\Profiles\<Profile Name>\Local Store
(e.g.,C:\Users\<YourUsername>\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\<Profile Name>\Local Store
)
Mac (OS X):
~/Library/Application Support/Thunderbird/Profiles/<Profile Name>/Mail
(e.g.,~/Library/Application Support/Thunderbird/Profiles/default\Mail
)~/Library/Application Support/Thunderbird/Profiles/<Profile Name>/Local Store
(e.g.,~/Library/Application Support/Thunderbird/Profiles/default/Local Store
)
Linux:
~/.thunderbird/Profiles/<Profile Name>/Mail
(e.g.,~/.thunderbird/Profiles/default\Mail
)~/.thunderbird/Profiles/<Profile Name>/Local Store
(e.g.,~/.thunderbird/Profiles/default/Local Store
)
Replace <Profile Name>
with the name of your Thunderbird profile (e.g., default
, profile1
, etc.).
Inside the mail directory, you'll find various subdirectories and files that store your email data, such as:
Mail
orLocal Store
: contains the actual email messages, folders, and accounts.Certificates
: stores SSL/TLS certificates and private keys.Certificates.sqlite
: a database file that stores certificate information.prefs.js
: a JavaScript file that stores your Thunderbird preferences.mail.rdf
: a file that stores your email account settings.
Remember to be careful when modifying or deleting files in the mail directory, as this can affect your email data and functionality.
