Ubuntu evolution gmail setup
To set up Evolution email client on Ubuntu to use Gmail, follow these steps:
Step 1: Install Evolution
If you haven't already, install Evolution by running the following command in the terminal:
sudo apt-get install evolution
Step 2: Launch Evolution
Launch Evolution by searching for it in the Dash or by running the following command in the terminal:
evolution
Step 3: Create a new account
In the Evolution window, click on "File" > "New" > "Mail Account" to create a new email account.
Step 4: Enter your Gmail account details
In the "New Mail Account" window, enter the following details:
- Account Name: Your name (e.g., John Doe)
- Email Address: Your Gmail address (e.g., [email protected])
- Password: Your Gmail password
- Server: imap.gmail.com (for IMAP) or pop.gmail.com (for POP3)
- Port: 993 (for IMAP) or 995 (for POP3)
- Use Secure Connection: Select "SSL" or "TLS" depending on your preference
Step 5: Configure the account
Click "Next" to proceed to the next step. Evolution will attempt to connect to your Gmail account. If everything is set up correctly, you should see a list of your Gmail folders (e.g., Inbox, Sent, Drafts).
Step 6: Set up the account
In the "Account Settings" window, you can configure additional settings, such as:
- Incoming Mail Server: imap.gmail.com (for IMAP) or pop.gmail.com (for POP3)
- Outgoing Mail Server: smtp.gmail.com
- Port: 587 (for SMTP)
- Use Secure Connection: Select "SSL" or "TLS" depending on your preference
Step 7: Save the changes
Click "Apply" and then "OK" to save the changes.
Step 8: Test the account
To test the account, click on the "Inbox" folder to see if you can receive emails. You can also try sending an email to test the outgoing mail server.
