The convenience of holding your mail!
The United States Postal Service (USPS) offers a service called "Hold Mail" that allows you to temporarily suspend mail delivery to your address while you're away. Here's how it works:
Why hold your mail?
- Going out of town for an extended period and don't want to accumulate mail.
- Moving to a new address and need to forward your mail.
- Taking a break from mail delivery due to vacation, business trip, or other reasons.
How to hold your mail:
- Online: Go to the USPS website (usps.com) and sign in to your account. Click on "Hold Mail" and follow the prompts.
- Phone: Call the USPS Customer Service number at 1-800-275-8777 (1-800-ASK-USPS) and ask to hold your mail.
- In-person: Visit your local post office and ask to hold your mail.
How long can you hold your mail?
You can hold your mail for up to 30 days. If you need to hold your mail for a longer period, you'll need to contact your local post office to make arrangements.
What happens to your held mail?
When you hold your mail, it will be stored at your local post office for the duration of the hold period. You can pick up your held mail at the post office during business hours.
Tips:
- Make sure to request a "Hold Mail" service at least 3 business days before you want your mail to be held.
- If you're holding your mail for an extended period, you may want to consider setting up mail forwarding to your new address.
- If you're holding your mail due to a move, be sure to update your address with the USPS to ensure your mail is forwarded correctly.
By holding your mail, you can enjoy a break from mail delivery and come back to a tidy mailbox when you return!
